ANDREW M. HAAS

Since early childhood, I have always wanted to be a filmmaker. I spent a majority of my time learning new tricks to improve my craft. I have studied the techniques of the professionals and put my own personal spin on them.

When it comes to the medium of film, there are two aspects that I'm interested in the most: practical effects and animation.The former is an expression of raw hand-constructed creativity through props, puppets, and makeup. The latter is the artistry of creating the illusion of life in something that isn't real. I grew up loving both of these and have made them both a major focus in what I plan to do with my film production career.

I had my first big experience in college at Ball State University, where I joined for numerous positions on its student run late show BSU TONIGHT. I became popular amongst the crew for my puppet/motion graphic skills, leading to bumpers and skits that got a lot of attention.

In my senior year, my student film, The Wet World of Water was selected into Ball State's Frog Baby Film Festival 2017, where it received a great reception from the audience.

In May 2017, I had the privilege to work with famous special makeup FX company Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc. (studioADI) as part of a two-week internship. There I got to work on some cool dinosaur effects for the 2018 blockbuster, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. While what we worked on didn't make it into the final cut, it was still an honor to work with talented artists on a major motion picture.

I graduated BSU with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fall 2017 and now plan to go out and continue being part of the filmmaking experience in whatever way possible. Whether doing video, editing, writing or effects, I hope to live out my dream of making my mark on the industry.
